We have carefully planned all the stages of this journey, giving you every day the opportunity to discover something new, be active and in touch with the nature, while being all the time in motion.
Day 1: Durrës and Vlora - two of the prettiest cities on the coast
The journey begins immediately after arriving at Tirana airport at noon and Durrës is the first stop. Founded in 627 BC, the city is an important tourist destination of Albania because most tourists visiting the country relax on the beaches around it. A coffee break is planned here in one of the bars on the seaside promenade. The trip continues in the direction of Vlora, which is exactly where the southern part of the Adriatic Sea meets with the northern part of the Ionian Sea. Dinner is planned in one of the most beautiful restaurants near the sea where you can enjoy fresh fish or seafruits. After dinner, we will be driven to the National Park of Llogara where we will be accommodated in a small, but comfortable hotel.(-/-/D)
Day 2: Llogara, the evergreen national park (800 - 1400 m) and the mountain peak of Qorre: 2018 m. T3, Wt 6 h, Am↑1200 Dm ↓1200
The National Park of Llogara is one of the most beautiful sites in Albania with a total area of 1020 hectares. Today's destination is the Peak of Qorre located on the Mount of Çikë, which rises at an altitude of 2018 meters and is the second highest peak of the Ceraunian Mountains. On the west, the Mount of Çikë goes sharp into the sea: a difference of 2000 meters in less than 5 kilometers. Especially on its upper part, there are very steep mountain slopes. The trail to the top is very visible, but steep and you’ll have to walk on scree. At the top, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view that stretches to Corfu. After a short photo break, descent begins. As we approach the park, the trail becomes less difficult and goes through pine trees with very large trunks. Return to hotel is planned for afternoon. Dinner will be provided at a restaurant in Llogara where you can choose among various dishes on the menu. (B/L/D)
Day 3: Caesar’s Pass (Qafa e Cezarit) and the idyllic Grama Bay: T2 +, Wt 7 - 8 h, Am↑400 Dm ↓1200
Day 3 will start early in the morning towards the path of Caesar, which begins near the hotel. In 48 BC, during the Roman civil war, on his way to Oric, Julius Caesar crossed the mountains through this pass, which was later named after him. We will walk through the woods toward the “Pits of Zaho" (Gropat e Zahos) and the "Pits of Piri" (Gropat e Pirit) and then onto the mountain ridge. The descending trail is sometimes steep and sometimes not, mainly of scree, up to Grama Bay, following the ridge of the mountain. The walk ends around noon at Grama Bay - an untouched beach in a special atmosphere, where you can enjoy nature or bathe in the crystal-clear sea. The sailors who sheltered here over thousands of years have left notes on the cliffs. Accommodation is in tents .(B/L/D)
Day 4: Boat trip along the Ionian coast.
After the breakfast we start our boat tour along the coast. On the way from Grama to Palasa lay many totally isolated bays and beaches and some underwater caves. The natural and wild romantic beauty of this part of the Ionian coast is breathtaking. Several stops are planned giving you the possibility to explore them.
The delta of Palasa Stream is another natural attraction. It collects the limestone and other mineral deposits picked up in the mountains and forms an open fan shape as it reaches the lower levels. The delta as a whole appears white and is called the “Stream of White Roads”.
Lunch is planned in Dhërmi, one of the most well-known and picturesque coastal villages in Albania. The old village is set onto the mountain and is one of the oldest and most characteristic villages on the Ionian Coast, with its stone, mountain houses nestling happily with historical monuments.
After lunch, the boat tour continues in the direction of Ngjipe. On the way lies the Pirates’ Cave, created by the power of the waves. The cave entrance can be hardly found because of the rocks that hide it. If sea conditions allow, we can even pay a visit to the cave.
The canyon of Ngjipe is situated along the lower parts of Ngjipe stream, between the villages Vuno and Ilias. It is formed by water erosion, is more than 2 km long and 100 m deep. The landscape is attractive, the beach is clean and the water clear. It is a real paradise for all intrepid climbers.
After some free time to explore the canyon or even try to climb its walls, boat tour to Jali, where the vehicles will be waiting for the transfer to Tirana. Dinner in a traditional "A la carte" restaurant and accommodation in Tirana. (B/L/D).
Day 5: Transfer to the airport, after breakfast according to the flight schedule. (B/-/-)
If you are coming in a prearranged group, you can pick the date of this tour yourself.
On the second day, due to the length of walks, and on day 4, during the boat trip around the Karaburun peninsula we will not be able to stop for lunch in restaurants,. Thus, during these days, we will either give you a lunch packet or prepare something simple to eat on the boat. The same goes for the day to be spent at the Grama Bay.
Some of the bays along the Ionian coast are totally isolated from the rest of the world and no piers are to be found there. You will be transported with little boats as close as possible to shore, if necessary.
The journey begins right after landing at the airport of Tirana with the noon flight. If your flight is in the evening, it is necessary to come to Tirana one day earlier.
