In this trip, we have very well combined walking & hiking with relaxation on the coast, so that you have the opportunity to enjoy to its best the Ionian riviera.
Day 1: Durrës and Vlora - two of the prettiest cities on the coast
The journey begins immediately after arriving at Tirana airport at noon and Durrës is the first stop. Founded in 627 BC, the city is an important tourist destination of Albania because most tourists visiting the country relax on the beaches around it. A coffee break is planned here in one of the bars on the seaside promenade. The journey continues in the direction of Vlora, the city with a very long coastline that stretches between the Adriatic and Ionian seas. Dinner is planned in one of the most beautiful restaurants near the sea. After dinner, we will be driven to the National Park of Llogara where the accommodation in hotel is planned.(-/-/D)
Day 2: Llogara, the evergreen national park (800 - 1400 m) and the Qorre Summit: 2018 m. T3, Wt 6 h, Am↑1200 Dm ↓1200
The National Park of Llogara is one of the most beautiful sites in Albania with a total area of 1020 hectares. Today's destination is the Peak of Qorre located on the Mount of Çikë, which rises at an altitude of 2018 meters and is the second highest peak of the Ceraunian Mountains. On the west, the Mount of Çikë goes sharp into the sea: a difference of 2000 meters in less than 5 kilometers. Especially on its upper part, there are very steep mountain slopes. The trail to the top is very visible, but steep and you’ll have to walk on scree. At the top you will be rewarded with a magnificent view: wild mountains and paradise beaches stretching along the coast. After a short photo break, descent begins, initially on scree. As we approach the park, the trail becomes less difficult and goes through pine trees with very large trunks. Accommodation in the same hotel. (B/L/D)
Day 3: Caesar’s Pass (Qafa e Cezarit) and the idyllic Grama Bay: T2 +, Wt 7 - 8 h, Am↑400 Dm ↓1200
Day 3 will start early in the morning towards the path of Caesar, which begins near the hotel. In 48 BC, during the Roman civil war, on his way to Oric, Julius Caesar crossed the mountains through this pass, which was later named after him. We will walk through the woods toward the “Pits of Zaho" (Gropat e Zahos) and the "Pits of Piri" (Gropat e Pirit) and then onto the mountain ridge. The descending trail is sometimes steep and sometimes not, mainly of scree, up to Grama Bay, following the ridge of the mountain. The walk ends around noon at Grama Bay - an untouched beach in a special atmosphere, where you can enjoy nature or bathe in the crystal-clear sea. The sailors who sheltered here over thousands of years have left notes on the cliffs. Accommodation is in tents. .(B/L/D)
Day 4: The stream of "White Roads" and " Drymadhes" beach. T2 +, Wt 7 h, Am↑35 Dm ↓35
The walk starts early in the morning while temperature has not yet gone up. The trail goes parallel with the sea and the scenery is very beautiful. The trail is not very steep and in some cases flat. The first stop is at St. Andrew’s Bay, located about 5 km away from Grama Bay. Totally isolated from the rest of the world, the bay has kept its natural beauty intact. After a short break for sea-bathing, we will continue walking toward Palasë, again taking the trail parallel to the sea.
The delta on the beach of Palasë is a particular geographical phenomenon, because due to the presence of limestone, it looks always white. It consists of sediments of solid material brought in from the stream of Palasë. It has the shape of a large cone and is called the "Stream of white roads". Transfer to Dhërmi where accommodation in a small family run hotel is planned. Dinner in one of the restaurants near the sea. (B/L/D)
Day 5: Dhërmi: the characteristic and picturesque village on the Ionian coast ( 200 m) and the canyon of Ngjipe. T2, Wt 4h, Am↑250 Dm ↓250.
Right after breakfast, drive to the village of Dhërmi, with many old houses of characteristic architecture. The oldest traces of village belong to 1st century BC.
In the village, there are 30 churches, some of which are very well preserved. We will visit some of them. After lunch walking starts through a visible and not too steep trail that is partly running through olive trees to the monastery of Saint Theodora, which is built on rock. Few meters away the Pirates’ Cave, created by the power of the waves, is situated. The cave entrance can be hardly found because of the rocks that hide it. If sea conditions allow, we can even pay a visit to the cave. Hiking continues towards the bay and the beach of Ngjipe, where accommodation in tents is planned. The landscape is very attractive, the beach is clean and the water clear and you can enjoy them in serenity. The canyon of Ngjipe is very deep and its vertical walls are suitable for climbing. Day 6: Jalë and Livadh, two of the most beautiful beaches of the Albanian Riviera. T1+, Wt.4 h, Am↑ 180 Dm ↓180
This day starts early in the morning. We will walk through a trail that at times is very steep and mostly without vegetation towards the Bay of Jalë, which is one of the most popular beaches in Albania, due to its particularly clean and warm water.
After a break for sea-bathing and lunch, hike through a not very steep and visible trail towards Livadh. Dinner at a seaside restaurant and accommodation in a family run hotel. (B/-/D)
Day 7: Porto Palermo harbor with the castle of Ali Pasha Tepelena and Himara, one of the oldest centers of Christianity in Albania: 100 m. Wt. 2 h.
Right after breakfast, we will travel southwards to the Harbor of Porto Palermo, which is one of the most beautiful sites of the entire Ionian coast. The harbor has been one of the most important military bases during the Cold War. The tunnel entrance, where submarines used to anchor, is visible from the height of the road. The magnificent castle of Ali Pasha, built by him as a gift for one of his wives, lies on a small island. The view from the castle, over the whole coast, is wonderful. After a short break, we will be driven in the direction of Himara. Visits to some churches and monasteries, as well as lunch are planned there. You will be guests to a Himara family where you can enjoy a cup of coffee in a fascinating view. The journey continues to Vlora and, after a short break to Tirana, where the dinner in a traditional restaurant and the accommodation in hotel are planned. After dinner, you can spend some pleasant moments in one of the “Block” area bars and enjoy the vibrant night life of Albanian capital city. (B/-/D)
